Taranaki is known for its legendary mountain, gutsy surf, spectacular gardens and impressive events. Located on the west coast of the North Island, this region surrounds the near-perfect cone of Mount Taranaki (formerly called Mount Egmont).
The region is exceptionally fertile due to good rainfall and mineral nutrients from the volcanic soil. Don't let the word 'rainfall' put you off visiting though...it is just the right amount at the right time to provide and maintain rich and dynamic flora and fauna. The area has mild temperatures and amongst the highest sunshine hours in the country.
Whether you are visiting Taranaki for the Festival of Lights at Pukekura Park, WOMAD, or even to surf the breaks along SH45, a friendly smile and welcome awaits your stay at the local naturist club.
